- identify the best ways to reach their target market in a way they will respond to
- determine how much the target audience is willing to pay for a particular product or service
Taking the time to research target markets can help organizations avoid the common mistake of developing products and services they think their target population wants rather than what they really need. It can help them develop effective marketing campaigns that resonate with their target market and encourage them to buy a particular product or service.
Marketing Strategy and Techniques
After the marketing research has been completed and the product/service developed, organizations typically implement a marketing strategy to reach their target audience. Using the information uncovered during their research, companies use a wide variety of marketing techniques to communicate with their target audience. Traditional marketing techniques include, print, radio and television advertising, telemarketing and public relations activities. With the advancement of technology in recent years, newer marketing methods include internet and social media marketing campaigns.
Marketing Messages
When implementing a marketing strategy, it’s important to let customers know how they will benefit from an organization’s product and/or services. A common trap organizations fall into is listing all of the features of a particular product or service without telling the customer how it will benefit them.
- Customer Benefits. Highlighting the ways a particular product or service will add value to the customer’s life makes it more likely the customer will purchase it.
- Choice. In today’s marketplace, customers have more choice than ever, so it’s important to let target markets know why they should choose your product over another company’s.
- Price. If the price is lower than similar products, let customers know. If the price is higher than competitors’ products, explain why the extra cost is worth it.
Giving customers all of the information they need to make an informed and educated decision will encourage them to choose your product/service over another.
