Description: Military and other discounts available.

Need a little homework help? Maybe you're having difficulties in one of your classes? Adult going back to school? Or possibly you just want to learn something new! Whatever your needs, I'm available to help. I would love to help you reach your potential. If I don't teach your subject, I'll help you find someone who does.

I've been a classroom educator for over 20 years. I taught classroom Music, Band, Choir, First Grade and Beginning Computer courses at the college level during this time. I began tutoring before I started my college studies in education. I have tutored Reading and Reading Comprehension, Math through Algebra, English/Grammar/Phonics, World History, Science, Study Skills, and have provided Homework Help.

My graduate degree is in Elementary Education and Reading. I enjoy teaching Reading at any level. I have previously taught Reading privately, in small groups, and in the classroom at the first grade level. As my undergraduate degree is in Music Education, I have also taught Flute, Piano and led Bands.

It is my belief that two of the most important academic subjects are Reading and Math. Reading in Kindergarten through Second Grade is primarily reading to learn to read and reading for pleasure. However, beginning around Third grade, reading is used to learn other subjects. Students are expected to begin reading textbooks and other material. If they are not strong in Reading, the other subjects will be very difficult. Of course we use Math everyday of our lives - and Reading! - and for that reason alone Math is important. However, I'm often asked why it's necessary to learn so much Math and learn more advanced Math that isn't always found in everyday life. One reason is "the more you know, the farther you can go!" When you limit the information you learn, you are limiting your possibilities for the future. Math is found in so many other subjects and careers - Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Sculpture, Drawing, Music, Engineering - and the list goes on! Of course anything that uses the computer uses Math. Today, that's everywhere. Finally, using Math requires you to think logically and to use the skill in solving problems. It helps you be precise in thoughts and words.

Aside from reading, which is one of my favorite activities, I thoroughly enjoy water activities such as swimming, boating and white water rafting. In addition, I enjoy board games and card games. I frequently play poker online and watch televised games. And yes, I like puzzles. I like Word puzzles and Math puzzles. Sudoku puzzles can be a lot of fun and quite challenging.

Services INCLUDED in my hourly fee:
-INDIVIDUALIZED instruction
-Telephone assistance between lessons
-Communication with Teachers and Schools
-Communication with You
-A Learning Plan that is used to develop specific lesson goals

If you choose me as your tutor, you can expect 3 things of me: Prompt, Thorough, Prepared! In addition, you should expect that I will ask you to do work to be prepared for your lessons. I look forward to hearing from you so we can begin soon!

Internet

Merriam-Webster defines the Internet as an electronic communications network that connects computer networks and organizational computer facilities around the world.  The concept of the Internet was introduced in the 1960s.  Since then Internet functionality and usage has exploded.  Today, billions of people around the world use the Internet to facilitate the exchange of information for a variety of purposes.

Internet Usage

The Internet has revolutionized the way we gather information, do business and communicate.  Activities that used to take hours or even days can now occur in real time with just the push of a button.  Examples include:

  • Ecommerce.  The internet makes it possible to buy and sell goods and services without leaving home.
  • Finances.  Online bill pay and online banking make it easy to pay recurring bills and keep track of accounts.
  • Gather Information.  Many newspapers, magazines, journals and other print resources can be accessed via the internet.  Some are available free of charge, while others require users to pay a fee.  Since the Internet has become so popular, some publications have even replaced their print versions with online versions, while others use the Internet to supplement the print edition.  However, as the Internet has made the dissemination of information quick and easy, all sources are not reputable, so it is important to evaluate the source of the information to make sure it is credible.
  • Electronic Mail.  Otherwise known as email, the Internet makes sending and responding to correspondence possible in real time.  Envelopes and stamps are no longer necessary.  Simply type a message, click “send” and the communication will be transported to its recipient in a matter of seconds.

Get Internet Help

For those who have grown up with the Internet, it has always been an integral party of their lives, and they don’t have to think twice about taking advantage of its functionality.  It’s second nature.  However, for those individuals who remember what life was like without the Internet, becoming proficient in using it can be a challenge.  Those who need help learning how to use the Internet can choose from a variety of resources.

  • Classes.  Some colleges and universities offer non-credit classes about how to use the Internet.  If you take a class, you’ll be surrounded by people, who like you, want to become more proficient in using the Internet
  • Books.  It may seem old fashioned in this age of technology, but there have been many books written on the subject of using the Internet.
  • Internet.  It may seem counterintuitive to learn about the Internet from the Internet if you are unfamiliar with it, but a simple “how to use the internet” search returns countless results, including “how to” guides, tutorials and more.
  • Internet tutor.  A private tutor can provide the most individualized approach to learning the Internet.  When you hire a tutor, you will work with someone who can customize their lessons to meet your unique needs and focus on what it is you want to learn.
