Need a little homework help? Maybe you're having difficulties in one of your classes? Adult going back to school? Or possibly you just want to learn something new! Whatever your needs, I'm available to help. I would love to help you reach your potential. If I don't teach your subject, I'll help you find someone who does.
I've been a classroom educator for over 20 years. I taught classroom Music, Band, Choir, First Grade and Beginning Computer courses at the college level during this time. I began tutoring before I started my college studies in education. I have tutored Reading and Reading Comprehension, Math through Algebra, English/Grammar/Phonics, World History, Science, Study Skills, and have provided Homework Help.
My graduate degree is in Elementary Education and Reading. I enjoy teaching Reading at any level. I have previously taught Reading privately, in small groups, and in the classroom at the first grade level. As my undergraduate degree is in Music Education, I have also taught Flute, Piano and led Bands.
It is my belief that two of the most important academic subjects are Reading and Math. Reading in Kindergarten through Second Grade is primarily reading to learn to read and reading for pleasure. However, beginning around Third grade, reading is used to learn other subjects. Students are expected to begin reading textbooks and other material. If they are not strong in Reading, the other subjects will be very difficult. Of course we use Math everyday of our lives - and Reading! - and for that reason alone Math is important. However, I'm often asked why it's necessary to learn so much Math and learn more advanced Math that isn't always found in everyday life. One reason is "the more you know, the farther you can go!" When you limit the information you learn, you are limiting your possibilities for the future. Math is found in so many other subjects and careers - Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Sculpture, Drawing, Music, Engineering - and the list goes on! Of course anything that uses the computer uses Math. Today, that's everywhere. Finally, using Math requires you to think logically and to use the skill in solving problems. It helps you be precise in thoughts and words.
Aside from reading, which is one of my favorite activities, I thoroughly enjoy water activities such as swimming, boating and white water rafting. In addition, I enjoy board games and card games. I frequently play poker online and watch televised games. And yes, I like puzzles. I like Word puzzles and Math puzzles. Sudoku puzzles can be a lot of fun and quite challenging.
Services INCLUDED in my hourly fee:
-INDIVIDUALIZED instruction
-Telephone assistance between lessons
-Communication with Teachers and Schools
-Communication with You
-A Learning Plan that is used to develop specific lesson goals
If you choose me as your tutor, you can expect 3 things of me: Prompt, Thorough, Prepared! In addition, you should expect that I will ask you to do work to be prepared for your lessons. I look forward to hearing from you so we can begin soon!

Description:
When Stephen tutors, he utilizes Vygotsky's scaffolding method, as well as the "Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD)" method, to ensure maximum effectiveness in learning. He also uses the theory of Bloom's Taxonomy to hone in on the learning style of the student in order to maximize the effects of study. Stephen continually encourages an excitement in learning, and demonstrates this excitement as he tutors.
Stephen's tutoring philosophy: "My job is not to be the expert. My job is to condition the student to be the expert."

Description:
Hi! My name is Tricia. I have a about 5 years of experience tutoring over 80 students from elementary to college age. I'm currently a practicing engineer at a medical device company and tutor in my free time. It's something I truly love to do, there's nothing better than witnessing the "light bulb" moment.
Through participating in a biomedical engineering curriculum, I learned to critically think about different subjects and how they relate to each other, which I use to tutor and help students understand. I also aim to instill critical thinking techniques when teaching, allowing students to move away from memorization and towards logical thinking and problem solving, which in turn helps them retain the information and score better on exams.
When tutoring I try to incorporate a comfortable and fun environment to promote learning. I feel that the more comfortable one is when learning, the more beneficial the lesson will be. I try to build my students' confidence in order for them to feel comfortable asking questions and communicating their weaknesses. In this way I try to direct my teaching to each student's learning style and learning rate. I also try to promote good organization and study techniques, which I feel are important in order to focus one's attention and provide for clearer thinking.
I am confident that my experience will be well suited for your goals. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I hope to hear from you soon and help you in your success!

Description:
I don't want to clutter you with the many subjects that I CAN teach. I want to tell you about the subject I'm an expert at: SAT and ACT. I help high school students increase their scores so they can get into their schools of choice and get top scholarship money, which saves their parents potentially thousands on the cost of college. I've worked with one of the top tutoring companies in NYC who would charge $400/50minute session. I learned a lot from that experience and want to bring that to you at a much more affordable rate. My scores are ACT: 34/36 SAT: 2400/2400 superscore (My scores helped me get into Duke University, earn a full tuition scholarship to Colgate U and a Full-Ride (Tuition and Room&Board + free laptop) to The College of New Jersey) I've also received 800's on the Math IIc and Physics subject tests, and 11 perfect scores on Advanced Placement Exams, so I'm a test taking pro. In addition to this, I integrate valuable life lessons rarely taught or even mentioned in primary school and college that help students become more successful and balanced people in the real world. My students continually come back to me and thank me for showing them these quick and simple tools in stress management and productivity. I call it the Holistic Approach or Whole-Person Centered Tutoring. Get a FREE SAT & ACT consultation and learn why these tests offer the easiest way for juniors to get into college and the easiest way to get top scholarships! TRY ME RISK-FREE, too! If the student doesn't learn anything or doesn't feel I'm a good fit, you don't have to pay me! I'm physically based in Rochester, NY but with Skype have been tutoring online for the past year without a hitch. Learn more about the advantages of online tutoring.
