Article examines five benefits of summer tutoring for students.

When the school bell rings for the final time, the last thing most students and parents have on their mind for the summer is studying.  However, summer provides the perfect opportunity for students to continue learning.  Regardless of whether or not you’ve worked with a tutor in the past, the summer months may be a good time to consider hiring one.  Below are just some of the benefits of summer tutoring.

You Have More Time

During the summer, you have more time to devote to your tutoring sessions.  Without the daily grind that accompanies the school year, you have more freedom to choose how you spend your time.  When you work with a tutor during the school year, it becomes one more thing you have to fit into your schedule.  With extra time in your schedule during the summer, it’s easier to devote time to your tutoring sessions and review material between sessions.

You Have Less Stress

With summer tutoring, you’re probably less stressed out than you would be during the school year.  When school is in session, you’re in a race to learn new concepts within a certain amount of time to pass a test or complete a project.  During the summer, you don’t have these timelines, so you won’t feel as much pressure to get it right.  You can take as much time as you need to ensure you have a good grasp of the material you are studying.

You Have Fewer Distractions

During the school year, you go to class for hours every day, complete daily homework assignments and participate in sports and other extracurricular activities.  Such a busy schedule can often leave you wondering how you can possibly get it all done.  However, during the summer, there is less going on and fewer distractions, giving you a chance to focus on summer tutoring sessions without having to worry about other competing priorities, so you can concentrate on those areas that need special attention.

You Forget Less

Every summer students walk out of school after the bell rings for the last time with thoughts of pools, beaches and relaxation.  Frequently these lazy days translate into lost learning during the summer months.  As a result, teachers spend weeks at the beginning of every school year reviewing material students have already learned but forgot over the summer.  Summer tutoring gives you an opportunity to not only minimize the amount of information you forget, but also continue learning throughout the summer, so you are prepared to hit the ground running when school begins the following year.

You Don’t Get Bored

Lazy summer days often seem appealing at the end of a tough school year.  However, those days can quickly turn into hour after hour of boredom if you don’t have something to do to pass the time.  Summer tutoring is a productive way to spend those extra hours, brushing up on old skills and learning new ones to prepare you for the upcoming school year.
