Description:
In the past six years, I have been fortunate enough to have taught both French and English to students of all ages in the UK, US and China. After teaching French in British secondary schools, I enjoyed the opportunity of working with younger students in Chicago. I have recently returned to the US after three years of teaching English as a second language in China.
Although I greatly enjoy being in the classroom, working on a one to one basis offers many rewards for me such as the chance to tailor lessons to meet the exact needs and expectations of students as well as see their rapid progress. I love getting to know students and bringing their interests into our lessons.
My most recent experience in China led me to teach English to students ages 3 through 18. During this time I planned and taught exciting lessons that focused on developing all language skills. Variety as well as student engagement are very important to me and that is reflected in my lessons that incorporate games, grammar exercises, reading or writing focused activities and a lot of communication practice. I hold a TEFL certificate.
When I was five years old, my family moved to France from the UK. I underwent my entire education from primary to university there. Because of this, not only am I now bilingual but I also have a deep and personal love of French culture. My teaching qualifications center around teaching modern foreign languages, in particular French.
Languages have really opened up the world for me and I have enjoyed so many incredible experiences thanks to them. I hope I can help you do the same!

When Stephen tutors, he utilizes Vygotsky's scaffolding method, as well as the "Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD)" method, to ensure maximum effectiveness in learning. He also uses the theory of Bloom's Taxonomy to hone in on the learning style of the student in order to maximize the effects of study. Stephen continually encourages an excitement in learning, and demonstrates this excitement as he tutors.
Stephen's tutoring philosophy: "My job is not to be the expert. My job is to condition the student to be the expert."

Description:
St Charles based Learning Ascent Corporation was founded in 2002 to offer better tutoring solutions. Our tutors have helped hundreds of students in St Charles and nearby communities. We make it easy for busy parents to find custom, professional tutoring for their children. Your child can immediately get the chance to succeed that she deserves. Learning Ascent professionals know and work with local school district curricula. Familiarity with the curriculum allows tutors to identify and correct the root of problems. We can even help your child to better comprehend and complete homework assignments. Big tutoring chains place students into "canned" systems to make tutoring easy for the tutors. Parents must pay for expensive diagnostic tests that are only necessary to "place" or "fit" the student into their existing system. The systems do not integrate with local school curriculum's and the student winds up with more work–over and above normal school work.
